The Sangre de Cristo Marathon runs point-to-point through Santa Fe's high-desert landscape — piñon forest, open mesa, and the historic Camino Real corridor before the final descent into the Plaza. Expect crisp October air, big views, and a genuine altitude challenge.
The course is USATF certified and offers both road and packed gravel segments. All surfaces are runnable without trail shoes, though a mild trail shoe is recommended for sections between miles 4 and 9.

Runners who cannot maintain the required pace will be collected by support vehicles and transported to the finish.
Headphones
Permitted but discouraged. If worn, keep one ear open to hear course marshals and vehicle traffic.

Not permitted on either course.
Pacers
Official pacers available for marathon finish targets: 3:30, 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, and 6:00.
